Welcome to
WHISKEY ROAD RESERVE
The home of the Nokota Experience Immersion, a rare opportunity to connect with the Nokota horses on land that reflects their ancestral environment.
This is a place where the bond between horse, land, and human is remembered.
The presence of the Nokotas brings the prairie full circle, restoring a living connection to the spirit and history of the Northern Plains.
Located in the heart of native prairie just outside Scranton.
THERE ARE PLACES THAT HOLD STORIES
This land was first homesteaded in 1904 by Erik and Pernella Eien, Norwegian immigrants seeking a new life on the prairie. As the railroad expanded west and the Yellowstone Trail stretched from Chicago to Seattle, this rugged road became known as “Whiskey Road” a testament to the grit and resilience of early settlers navigating harsh homesteading years and the Prohibition era.
For over a century, this land has stayed in the same family, protected, respected, and preserved. Much of the prairie has never been plowed. Each spring, thousands of native crocuses bloom across the hillsides, signaling renewal after long winters.
Wildlife roams freely, offering a glimpse into the past.
Today, Whiskey Road Reserve continues this legacy, keeping the prairie native and sharing its spirit through the Nokota Immersion Experience.

PEOPLE BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE
Since the very beginning, Paul Hendrickson and his family have been invaluable supporters of the project dedicating their time, energy, and passion to help it grow into what it is today.
Paul plays a central role in both the experience and the ongoing care of the horses. Guided by the knowledge and advice of Frank Kuntz, he ensures the herd is cared for with deep respect and attention.
He also oversees on-site coordination, ensuring every aspect of the Nokota Experience unfolds smoothly.
Beyond daily care, Paul is committed to preserving and sharing the story of the Nokotas ensuring their legacy continues for generations to come.
